Help spread hope this May in celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month!
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's (AFSP) New Hampshire Chapter is looking for caring and creative volunteers to help us set up a mental health mission moment in New Hampshire.
Volunteers will set up a resource table and "Hope Wall" at a local coffee shop or mental health organization. You will have the opportunity to connect community members to vital suicide prevention materials, hand out free mental health awareness swag, and create a space where people can share hope with one another. Supporters will be invited to add a post it note to the "Hope Wall" with positive mental health messaging, a joyful drawing, or the name of a loved one who is being honored or remembered.
All materials will be provided by AFSP.
Note: Tabling location(s) to be determined based on the location of interested volunteers.

Opportunity:Wetlands Walk & Pollinator Gardens Care
Date:05/15/2026 09:00 AM - 05/15/2026 12:00 PM
Agency:Belknap County Conservation District /Wetlands Walk at Gunstock
Most tasks are easy including removing leaves around wood posts, moss and lichen from the boardwalk surface, trimming branches there and on the connecting trails, sanding and priming/painting the bumper for the visually impaired, and minor repairs. Also removing invasive weeds from dry and wet areas. The minor carpentry to replace posts is a bit more challenging and includes removing old posts. Our wizard of a volunteer, Tom created a step by step guide. Boots are helpful for removing or girdling invasive plants in the wetland. There are also two pollinator gardens that need weeding. We will cancel for steady rain, but ok in mist, light drizzle, light intermittent rain, there is a pavilion to rest in.
Community Service Certificates are available. Just follow the posterboard volunteer signs and Wetlands Walk signs to find us. When leave pavement, go down the gravel driveway and follow road to the end or near it. Gunstock prefers that we park in the small disabled lot and on the stream side and do not drive in the campground's field area.

Community Help Wanted: A Little Muscle, A Lot of Heart
Do you enjoy working outdoors or helping a neighbor?
I’m looking for a few helping hands for some light-to-moderate outdoor projects at our Lakes Region Clubhouse Site.
Ongoing Project: A Child-Friendly Garden
I’m creating a small perennial garden—especially Shasta daisies planted as gentle paths, where children can:
- Cut one flower to give to a parent or guardian
- Learn how flowers absorb colored water (simple, fun science!)
Help needed with:
- Ground preparation
- Digging and Raking
- General garden setup
Opportunity:Beautify perennial gardens and Maintain hiking trails
Date:05/15/2026 09:00 AM - 05/15/2026 03:00 PM
Agency:Chapman Sanctuary and Visny Woods
We are happy to invite you to our tranquil wilderness area. The first opportunity is to work alongside our lead gardener while beautifying the perennial gardens. This may include weeding, edging, mulching, and planting all under the guidance of an experienced gardener.
The second opportunity would take place in the woods along our trail network. This option may include freshening trail blazes, cutting back encroaching vegetation, and removing branches. A team from Chapman Sanctuary and Visny Woods will lead this group.

The Refresh Crew (Light Maintenance) Help us get the building shining for the season.
Tasks: Window washing, cleaning entry doors, and performing minor "touch-up" paint repairs.
Note: Perfect for those who prefer staying on level ground but want to see an immediate transformation.

All necessary tools and cleaning supplies.
Touch-up paint and brushes.

Date:05/15/2026 09:00 AM - 05/15/2026 05:00 PM
Agency:Laconia Historical & Museum Society
The Laconia Historical & Museum Society (LHMS) needs help to preserve an important piece of our community’s visual history. This project focuses on the Bob St. Louis photograph collection—a unique set of images capturing people, places, and moments that help tell Laconia’s story.
Volunteers will work alongside our team to review each photograph, verify details when possible, and catalog the information. This may include noting locations, dates, subjects, and any known historical context.
This is a hands-on opportunity to engage directly with local history: no experience necessary, just a passion for preserving the past. Your contribution will make a meaningful impact.
What you’ll do:
- Review and sort photographs from the Bob St. Louis collection
- Help identify people, places, and events depicted in images
- Record and organize information for archival records
- Assist with labeling and maintaining proper storage of materials
Training and guidance will be provided. Flexible scheduling is available.
Help us ensure that Laconia’s story is preserved, one photograph at a time.
