Everybody Wins! Reading Mentors are paired with elementary school mentees for reading, games, and connection. Reading pairs meet one-on-one once a week midday throughout the school year (Oct-May.) Reading Mentors are not tutors or teachers but more like friends. When children are read to one-on-one by a caring adult, research shows that their reading improves — and so does their interest in other subjects, their confidence, social skills, and interest in school.
Mentors often say that their reading day is their favorite day of the week. Reading pairs are carefully matched based on personality, interests, and preferences often stay together for several years creating a lasting friendship.
