Agency:Mount Sacred Heart Convent

Day of Caring Volunteers may help with a variety of late season gardening tasks.  Harvesting, produce storage and garden clean-up are some activities that may need to be done.  The actual list of activities will depend upon the needs at the time.   All of this work supports the goal of the Mount Sacred Heart Garden Project to provide fresh vegetables to those experiencing food insecurity in area communities.  MSH Garden typically produces over 6000 pounds of vegetables each year, grown using organic gardening techniques.  This food is distributed to the convent, 4 local food pantries and 2 community meals.  The project is volunteer led and staffed.

The Lancaster Community Garden has been going strong for over 10 years now and the original raised beds are starting to show the tell tale signs of wear and tear and are in need of a spruce-up. We are seeking a team of volunteers with basic carpentry skills to help us in this endeavor to ensure the long life of the community garden for many seasons and gardeners to come. Depending as well on the number of volunteers, we'd also love to rebuild one of our compost bins also in the community garden.
